Welcome to Light Oaks Junior School
At Light Oaks Junior School, we are proud to promote the values of Respect, Resilience, and Responsibility in everything we do. We are an inclusive and nurturing community where every child is supported to thrive.
Wellbeing and mental health are central to our ethos. We offer a comprehensive programme of support, including a dedicated mental health and wellbeing curriculum, ensuring that all pupils feel safe, valued, and empowered. Our commitment to keeping children active is reflected in our strong sports provision and daily opportunities for physical activity.
With high expectations and a supportive environment, our pupils leave us ready for the next stage of their education—academically, personally, and socially.
This year, we are continuing to work towards the Gold Emotionally Friendly Schools Award and continuing our partnership with UNICEF through our Rights Respecting School work. We are proud to be a School of Sanctuary and welcome all pupils to our school with compassion, empathy and kindness.
We also continue to be a Platinum School Games accredited school and we will continue our high-profile sport and PE work in Salford and beyond.
We have developed an ambitious curriculum and we will continue to improve and adapt this offer to the needs of our learning community. We are passionate that all pupils should learn well and ensure that we adapt our curriculum and our teaching so that all pupils are ready for the next stage of their learning - regardless of their starting points.
We are proud that our teaching staff and leaders work tirelessly to improve teaching and learning across the school, making sure that all of our training and development is based on clear research and best practice. We want to make our teaching efficient and effective so that our children can do more, know more and remember more, across each year and throughout their junior school experience.
We are continually improving our educational offer, our curriculum and our enrichment opportunities. We are a restless school and will always seek to improve everything we do.
This year we are continuing on our journey to refresh our English Curriculum - embedding both a focussed writing curriculum and a comprehensive spelling programme. We are committed to developing pupils’ fluency in reading, as a key skill which will underpin all of their future learning. Alongside this, our new oracy curriculum will empower children to communicate clearly and effectively, helping them to build social confidence and cultural capital that will support them throughout their lives.
