Admissions
Transfer to Year 3 from Light Oaks Infant School
Children who attend Light Oaks Infant School will automatically transfer into Year 3 at Light Oaks Junior School. The school follows the policy laid down by the Local Authority.
Other Admissions
Children can be admitted to Light Oaks Junior School at any appropriate age: we are always pleased to meet new parents in person and show them around. Please telephone the school to make arrangements, or write or call in – ask for Mrs Lever or Mrs Taylor. You will always be welcomed! We can also advise you on the application process if needed.
However, please be aware that all admissions are coordinated through the Local Authority. As far as possible, Salford's Admissions and Exclusions Team will try to meet parental preferences for schools but it is not always possible to do so. Places in schools are limited by the physical space in the school and Light Oaks Junior School has an admission limit of 90 children per year group. Information about how to apply can be found lower down on this page.
Arrangements For The Admission Of Pupils With Disabilities
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a persons ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act.
The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is the Governors Policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish and individual needs are planned for to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice we ensure that classroom and extra curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs.
Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils.
Existing facilities provided to assist access to the school by pupils with disabilities:
- Wheelchair access onto school grounds at the main entrance on Brandon Road and the Westgate Entrance.
- Wheelchair access into the school at all entrances, and all rooms.
- Carpeted classrooms to aid hearing impaired pupils’ learning.
- Exterior lighting to improve evening access.
- Routes to the main entrance are clearly signed and free from obstructions.
- Two children’s disabled toilets (from September 2014) and one adult disabled toilet.
- Disabled parking is available at the main entrance.
School Accessibility Plan
The school is addressing access for people with disabilities. The Local Authority have audited our schools’ accessibility to people with disabilities and we have developed an action plan. The plan covers increasing the access to the curriculum, the physical environment and improving the provision of information in alternative formats to pupils with disabilities. A copy can be found on the SEND page.
Appeals
All appeals are dealt with by the Local authority. You can find out how to appeal for a school place at Light Oaks Junior School HERE.
